The Silicon Valley Office of Protocol:
- Provides country/culture-specific briefings to elected officials travelling abroad or greeting foreign delegations at home
- Works with Advance Teams, Embassy Staff, Consular Officials and the U.S. Department of State to coordinate Head of State and Head of Government visits to Silicon Valley
- Conducts red-carpet Airport ceremony to welcome Heads of State to the region
- Coordinates meetings and ceremonies for visiting international delegations
- Arranges cultural sensitivity trainings, including a three-day training for all Airport Staff at Mineta San Jose International Airport
- Provides advice on flag etiquette, orders of precedence, seating, titles, introductions and appropriate gift selection to government officials
- Arranges tours of local landmarks for international CEOs and delegations
- Consults with government affairs teams at Silicon Valley companies and organizations
- Provides introductions among key players; brings diverse groups together; and connects business interests, government representatives, and members of the community
- Provides liaison for dignitary visits at Mineta San Jose International Airport, and coordinates diplomatic security, gate passes, parking, and ceremonial activities
- Arranges tours of Silicon Valley social media companies for diplomats seeking to expand use of social media
- Presents guest lectures at local universities regarding protocol, and diplomatic and business etiquette
- Facilitates contact with local elected officials to consular officers and visiting delegations
- Connects international start-ups with local resources
- Represents government officials at events when requested
